James Taplin - Music Producer & Engineer
James Taplin is an independent Producer, Engineer and Mixer based in Naarm/Melbourne. Working with artists such as Pet Therapy, Samara Bright, Dan Cully and Nelson Mathews, he has developed a wealth of experience in recording, producing and mixing in many styles and contexts, always putting the music and intention first. James often works out of Sing Sing Recording Studios in Northcote, but is also accustomed to working in a variety of other studio and home setups.
James is committed to representing music in the most true and honest way possible, while also making records with the punch, clarity and richness that is often demanded of modern productions.
He has also worked as a studio assistant with artists, engineers and productions from all around Australia, such as Camp Cope, Tiny Little Houses, Tim Rogers, Thelma Plum and Beetlejuice The Musical.
James offers a range of services, including recording, mixing, production and writing. He is dedicated to working creatively, pushing boundaries, and maintaining a positive environment throughout.

Production
My production skills have played a vital role in many of the releases I have worked on, doing everything from arrangement, to creative effects, to adding guitar, synth and drum parts. I always aim to understand what a song needs, so that my contributions can be as effective and appropriate as possible. When I work on other people's music, they know that they always have the final say on everything.
Recording
I am available to record your music! Though I work primarily from Sing Sing, I am comfortable working with a wide range of budgets, experience, locations, and time constraints. I have equipment for recording in any location, and I enjoy creating something that represents the artist and the depth of emotion in the music, whatever style or sound they may be going for.
Mixing & Mastering
Through mixing both released and upcoming records for artists such as Nelson Mathews, Pet Therapy and Bombshell Interview, I have developed my mixing to be both versatile and consistent. No matter what the recording, I have the skills and commitment to help artists make their recordings sound the best they can be, and ensure that the music will translate well on streaming, physical media, and radio.
Writing
I really enjoy the opportunity to co-write and write for artists. I find that a shared vision and connection to the music we're making goes a long way towards finding something that resonates.
